OUR WHY

Our county is home to a thriving arts community, yet we lack a dedicated space to showcase our incredible local talent. From dance and theatre to live music and cultural events, our performing arts organizations struggle to find venues that can accommodate their productions. Without an adequate performance facility, our artists and audiences are forced to look outside our community—taking talent, economic opportunities, and cultural experiences elsewhere.

1. A Space for Our Artists
   Currently, our local performing arts groups, including the San Benito Stage Company, school band and choir organizations and dance studios, face significant challenges in securing performance venues. The San Benito Stage Company, which provides performance opportunities for actors of all ages, puts on multiple productions each year with casts of 30-40 performers. However, the lack of available venues limits their ability to grow and serve the community. Similarly, San Benito Dance Connection, home of San Benito Dance Academy and Flying Colors Dance, has over 400 weekly students, and struggles to find a venue large enough to accommodate productions like The Nutcracker and their annual recitals. Without a theater that seats at least 700 audience members and adequate backstage space, these performances must be relocated to out-of-town venues, preventing our community from fully experiencing and supporting its own artists. 
2. A Cultural and Economic Investment
   A performing arts center would not only serve our local artists but also benefit our entire community. It would provide a home for educational programs, workshops, and performances that enrich lives. Additionally, a local venue would keep event revenue within our county—supporting local businesses, attracting visitors, and fostering a vibrant cultural scene.
